Oracle Buys Into Social Media Marketing

With Facebook having over 900 million active users and Twitter with 200 million tweets per day, Social Media is here to stay reaching over 80% of the population.

Last month Oracle acquired Social Media Marketing Firm Vitrue for $300 Million.   Vitrue is a cloud-based social marketing platform that enables marketers to centrally manage, measure and report on their social marketing campaigns, helping to solve one of the biggest problems of producing the Social ROI.   Vitrue manages over 1.3 Billion social interactions across more such as American Express, Mac Donald’s, Macy’s, Samsung, Lowes, BBC, and over 500 big brands.

Oracle also recently acquired another social media company Collective Media, who’s customers include NBC, Hasbro, Nestle, Pepsi, Walmart and other fortune 500 companies.  Collective Media specializes in Social CRM and when combined with their semantic and text mining becomes a extremely useful tool in finding customer insights as well as intent.    In layman terms, you can target the right customer with the right message by analyzing the social content around them.   This becomes invaluable for market research and advertising.   Find trends and send out the right Ads to the right people.

Social Media Marketing has quickly become a very integral part of doing business.   Companies can no longer ignore Social Media if they want to survive this next phase of our economy.
