AI Referral Traffic to U.S. Retail Sites Up 1,200% Year-Over-Year
Adobe Analytics tracked visits to U.S. retail websites from generative AI sources, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and Perplexity, and found they grew 1,200% year-over-year between July 2024 and February 2025. The same data showed a 1,300% YoY surge during the 2024 holiday season, with Cyber Monday alone at +1,950% YoY. Adobe Analytics also found that AI-referred visitors convert 31% more than other traffic and spend 32% more time on site.

Google AI Overviews Now Appear in 60%+ of All U.S. Searches
Google's AI Overviews (formerly Search Generative Experience) now trigger for an estimated 60%+ of all U.S. Google searches as of November 2025, according to Xponent21's tracking data. These AI-generated summaries appear above traditional organic results, dramatically reducing click-through rates for brands not optimized for AI citation. Separate data from GrowthSRC found that when AI Overviews appear, organic CTR drops by approximately 67.8%.

38% of Consumers Have Used Generative AI for Online Shopping
Adobe Analytics consumer survey data shows 38% of respondents have already used generative AI tools for online shopping tasks, with 52% planning to do so. Among AI shopping users, the top use cases are product research (53%), getting recommendations (40%), finding deals (36%), and creating shopping lists (30%). This marks a decisive mainstream shift in how consumers discover and evaluate products.

Generative AI Could Add Up to $4.4 Trillion Annually to the Global Economy
McKinsey & Company's research across 63 generative AI use cases found it could add $2.6โ$4.4 trillion annually to the global economy. Approximately 75% of that value is concentrated in four domains: customer operations, marketing and sales, software engineering, and R&D, making AI visibility in search a direct revenue driver for brands in these categories.
